About
Meet Evelyn and Kellie
Our story began as graduate students and friends at the University of Michigan. We discovered a shared talent for creating art that makes complex science and medicine easier to understand. We earned master’s degrees in Medical and Biological Illustration, a specialized field that brings together rigorous scientific training and the art of visual storytelling. Separately we built award-winning careers that help people see and understand challenging concepts. We remained colleagues as professional members of the Association of Medical Illustrators, and trusted collaborators. Trial Studios grew naturally from paired complimentary experience and our appreciation for working closely with attorneys to bring clarity and understanding to complex medical evidence.
Evelyn Pence, MFA, CMI
Evelyn’s current practice focuses on plaintiff-side medical malpractice and personal injury. She works closely with attorneys mostly in the greater Cincinnati and Chicago areas to transform complex medical records, injuries and treatment into clear, compelling visual evidence that helps juries understand the facts and see the human story behind a case.
Her career spans decades of creating scientific and medical illustrations for teaching hospitals, leading educational publishers, and Fortune 100 companies. Evelyn is a Board-Certified Medical Illustrator (CMI). She shares what she’s learned about visual storytelling at Northern Kentucky University as an adjunct lecturer in illustration.
Evelyn is based in the greater Cincinnati area.
Kellie Holoski, MFA
Kellie has a particular focus on medical malpractice defense. She has over a decade of experience with Medical Mutual Liability Insurance Society of Maryland, the leading provider of medical professional liability insurance for Maryland physicians. Her courtroom-ready illustrations help defense teams communicate complex medical concepts with clarity and precision, giving juries a visual understanding of the evidence that can be difficult to convey through words alone.
Her past roles include in house medical illustrator at Johns Hopkins Hospital and scientific illustrator at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. She has taught undergraduate illustration courses at the University of Michigan and McDaniel College. She is currently a regular illustration contributor to Science magazine.
Kellie is based in the greater Baltimore area.
